Museum News: We Have a New Office!

Through the door at 5 Market Square, up the stairs, and to the end of the hall are the new offices of the Amesbury Carriage Museum. We are in Suite 101. We now have space for our administrative headquarters and our first-ever research library. If you are downtown (and our office light is on), please stop by to visit!

And while we were setting up our new office, we were also finding a new home for the historical collections of the Salisbury Point Railroad Historical Society (SPRRHS). This all volunteer group had closed their doors in 2015 and placed their collections in the care of the Carriage Museum. Materials with an Amesbury focus remain with the ACM, the remainder (and the bulk of the collection) relating to the Boston & Maine Railroad and general railroad history has been transferred to the Sandown (NH) Historical Society. Happily the SPRRHS collections will be available a short distance away in Sandown.

A final bit of building news - the Biddle and Smart building at 29 Water Street - once planned as the location for the Amesbury Heritage Center - has been sold. With our partner, the Amesbury Chamber of Commerce, we accepted an offer and the building now has a new owner. We have relocated the museum collection of vehicles and are concentrating on a new opportunity to establish our first-ever home in a new location. You will be hearing more about our new home in the coming months.

We have had a busy fall. Through all these changes we remain focused on developing a vibrant and sustainable organization. And we are excited about our path forward.
