Museum News & Notes for the Fall Season

Dear Friend of the Museum,

As we close out our 2019 season, I want to share a few brief notes and then a personal reflection about our progress over the four years I have served as executive director of the Amesbury Carriage Museum.

Here are the brief notices -

- We are having an Open House. Stop by our offices between 11 am and 3 pm on Saturday, November 9. (More details here.) This is the weekend for the Amesbury Open Studio and I am sure our space will be packed. What better way to check in to meet with us and see all that we are planning for the future.

- A new Storefront Exhibit - "Make and Work. Industry in Amesbury." When you are downtown in Market Square, take a look at our new display in the storefront windows of the Counting House. Thanks to property owner Jay Gould, we have the use of these windows. Gradually we are developing an exhibit program to create a fun and interesting way to showcase local stories and events.

- Our Annual Fund. We have mailed the 2019 Annual Fund letters. Thank you to those who have sent in their annual donation. Your contribution goes directly to our operating account and covers many of our expenses. We truly appreciate your support! If you did not receive a letter - or if you are planning to make a donation - you can click here to contribute on line. Thank you for your contributions!

My reflection with a sincere note of gratitude. I am approaching the end of my fourth year (!) as executive director of the Amesbury Carriage Museum. When I began, we had a general idea about our direction, but certainly could not anticipate where we are today. With a location secured and our program plans taking form, we are moving ever closer to the reality of opening a local history museum.

There are many people who are part of this project. Beginning with our Board of Directors, our committee members, and our volunteers - these are the people who help me build the organization and present the programs. In addition, we receive support from local businesses, donors, members who provide financial and in-kind gifts. And of course, there are the many participants (young and old) who take part in our programs. When I look at the number of people who are part of the museum - it is incredible. I am so proud and grateful to have the interest and support of our community.

It truly is an exciting time for the Amesbury Carriage Museum. I look forward to great things in the year ahead. I hope you do too. Onward we go!

With much appreciation and gratitude -

John Mayer
