A Couple of Big (and Important) Things

Dear Friend of the Museum,

In case you were wondering - one big thing...

Our friend and the building owner, Greg Jardis, has begun a complete re-pointing of the original 1826 stair tower at Amesbury Industrial Supply. Workers have erected a massive scaffolding around the tower – and now the crew with East Coast Masonry have begun their work.

This will be a 3-month project. This sort of work is ongoing and is much needed to maintain our historic structure. (John Mayer photo.)

Happy August to all. I hope you are well and enjoying some summer fun.

In Amesbury, the unusual summer continues to be quite "a thing" – with either hot or rainy weather – and not much in between. Needless to say, the poor weather has affected our Thursday evening programs in the millyard.

But all is not lost - come by the IHC this Thursday, August 26 at 4:30pm for our final event in this series. We will be presenting a walking tour of the millyard, and the inside of the IHC is available for a sneak peek or you can just visit with us! Please stop by.

And progress continues with the Industrial History Center. We are planning our grand opening on Friday October 15, with a series of events following throughout the week. There will be much more information to share as our date approaches. It is exciting.

Thank you all for your interest and support. Here is to good things ahead.

Please reach out with any questions or comments.

Here is some Museum News for you -

Welcome Jessica Neuwirth! – our new Director of Engagement and Interpretation. This is wonderful and exciting news. We have added a new staff position to lead the development of our programming in the Industrial History Center. Jessica is a deeply experienced museum professional and historian. Her last position was at the Providence Children’s Museum where she was an exhibit developer. Stay tuned for a complete profile and more information about Jessica and the work ahead.

The Annual Meeting – Mark your calendars and plan to attend in-person or online the ACM annual meeting on Monday, September 13 beginning at 6:30 pm with our business meeting and report to the community. Then at 7 pm, we will feature Isaac Kestenbaum, director of the Salt Institute in Portland, Maine. Isaac will provide a fascinating history of Salt - founded in 1974 - and explore how documentary studies inform community story telling. I am thrilled to have such an interesting and distinguished guest for our program. Please join us. Click here to learn more about Salt.

And on the horizon… Driving through History II on Friday, September 24, and the Amesbury car show on Saturday, September 25. There are some fun things ahead.

Thank you!!!
