Join us for a discussion featuring descendants of families who operated carriage making companies in Amesbury. After a brief conversation, the speakers will share ephemera from their collections and continue their conversations.

Bart Bailey is the son of the last president of the Bailey Manufacturing Company, and the great-grandson of the company founder, S. R. Bailey.

Bill Ellis has family roots dating back to 1863, when his great- great grandfather, W. G. Ellis of W.G. Ellis & Sons Carriage Company, arrived in Amesbury and became one of the town’s most industrious citizens.

Edith Maxwell (moderator) is a local author and a thirty-year member of Amesbury Friends Meeting, a docent at the John Greenleaf Whittier Home Museum, a member of the Amesbury Carriage Museum and the Bartlett Museum, and a proud resident of Amesbury for six years.
