Amesbury Carriage Museum

Position: Executive Director

Status: Salaried, $30 per hour

Schedule: 30 hours/week, flexible, some evenings and weekends

Reports To: Board President
About the Role

The Executive Director is the driving force behind the Amesbury Carriage Museum—a

small, dynamic history museum rooted in community. This role blends leadership,

creativity, and hands-on work—from managing daily operations and leading

staff and volunteers—to fundraising and building connections across the region. If you’re

passionate about history, enjoy working with people, and want to grow a local cultural

hub, this is the place for you. 

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the Museum’s operations, staff, and volunteers with vision and collaboration.

  • Partner with the Board to set goals, shape programs, and strengthen impact.

  • Oversee budget, fundraising campaigns, and grants to keep the museum sustainable.

  • Champion ACM in the area—building relationships with donors, partners, and neighbors.

  • Support creative programs that bring history to life and attract new audiences.

What We’re Looking For

  • Degree in history, museum studies, nonprofit management—or related field.

  • At least 5 years’ experience in museums, nonprofits, or community programs.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills with staff and volunteers.

  • Comfortable with fundraising and budgets.

  • Strong communication, time management, and organizational skills.

  • A people-person who’s flexible, creative, and motivated.

Museum Education Coordinator

The Amesbury Carriage Museum seeks a Museum Education Coordinator to join our team of qualified museum professionals. The Museum Education Coordinator is the primary staff position responsible for programs and operations at the Industrial History Center. The Museum Education Coordinator is responsible for creating, planning, implementing, and evaluating the schedule of activities for the IHC. The position requires on-site presence with some evening and weekend hours.

Saturday Volunteer Docent

The Amesbury Carriage Museum seeks volunteers to join our Visitor Services Team at the Industrial History Center on Saturdays. Our team members greet and assist museum visitors, focusing on providing exceptional, memorable guest experiences. Individuals must enjoy interacting with the public, especially families and children. The Visitor Services team members serve as guests' first point of contact as they arrive at the IHC. As the museum’s ambassadors, our volunteers share important information about programs, exhibitions, and special events with incoming visitors. The team members should demonstrate knowledge of the museum and its collections.  Course credits are available for college internships.

Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include visitor count, shop, membership, and event sales. 
This shift is from 12 - 4 PM on Saturdays, May - December.

This is an unpaid position.
