Repair & Restore: Historic Windows with Window Woman, Alison Hardy

  • Industrial History Center Mill 2, Upper Millyard Amesbury, MA 01913 (map)

Windows are a big concern for property owners, and the knee jerk reaction is that original windows HAVE to be replaced. But, windows can and should be repaired and restored to maintain the beauty and functionality of older properties.

In this presentation, we'll discuss how window design has evolved and the craftsmanship that went into building them. We will discuss common issues that can be easily repaired, and why window maintenance makes sense both in the short and long term.

Alison Hardy, owner of Window Woman of New England, has restored and repaired windows in homes both grand and modest on Boston’s North Shore for the past twenty years. She is a founder of the Window Preservation Alliance and a member of the Preservation Trades Network, Newburyport Preservation Trust, and has appeared on several episodes of This Old House.
