Bicycles in Amesbury

  • Industrial History Center Mill 2, Upper Millyard Amesbury, MA 01913 (map)

Join us for an evening with Tom Murphy, Amesbury Carriage Museum Industrial Survey Group member and author of “Bicycles in Amesbury.”

Tom will trace how the national bicycle boom of the 1880s and 90s played out in Amesbury from riding to tinkering to building to manufacturing to bust. Learn about how our predecessors here responded to velocipedes, big-wheeled penny farthings, and safety bikes, and how those inventions changed life in Amesbury and even impacted the carriage industry.

An Amesbury-made bicycle and ephemera will be on display.
