Dear Friend of the Museum -

Our next program is sure to be an interesting workshop particularly for those who want to learn about researching family and local history. At 7 pm on Wednesday, August 21, at the Amesbury Senior Community Center located at 68 Elm Street in Amesbury, we will host a presentation by Melanie McComb, genealogist with American Ancestors and the New England Historic Genealogy Society. Melanie will provide an introduction to the discipline of genealogy research and share information about some of the many resources available for those interested in the topic. This is a free event - open to all. Doors will open at 6:30 pm - come early to get your seat!

We will also have Meaghan Wright, Assistant Research Librarian from the Phillips Library which is part of the Peabody Essex Museum. The Phillips Library holds a rich collection of materials documenting Essex County history AND they have recently moved to a new facility in Rowley (306 Newburyport Turnpike). Other nearby libraries have been invited to share information about their resources. Join us for this fun and informative event!

This workshop is tied directly to our mission to build interest in Amesbury history and our efforts to encourage learning from community stories.

In September we have two events that you won't want to miss - the Saturday, September 7 workshop titled "Learning from the Industrial Landscape," and our Monday, September 16 Annual Meeting featuring Dr. Elizabeth DeWolfe who will present the program "Women's Work in the Mills." These events require advance registration. Please visit our events page for more information.

Building our Museum

I am so grateful for the support of our many volunteers and those in the community who are working with us to build our program. It is an exciting time for all of us! Please reach out with your thoughts and questions. I look forward to seeing you at one or all of our upcoming events.
