Thinking about our History while Looking to the Future

Dear Friend of the Amesbury Carriage Museum,

My morning view on the way into the office. I often pause and think about the many years the river has flowed over the falls and the many people who have worked or lived in the area.

Here we are in this extraordinary time. And just like you, I hear it many times a day - this situation is unlike anything we have ever seen. We do not know when it will happen, but it will end. And one day we will be gathering to celebrate and enjoy the stories that make Amesbury and our region unique. For sure that is something to look forward to.

While you are spending more time inside, why not take a look at the museum website? Our many volunteers contribute to this and we frequently upload new content. If you have questions about information you discover or if you want to get involved and work on a project, please let me know.

Educational Programming is one tab on the website that aligns with a major focus for museum operations. Our objective is to connect students to their community and is at the heart of what makes the museum important. As we develop curriculum materials and other resources we make them available here.

One resource on this page is the Amesbury Millyard Walking Tour. You can tour the millyard using a mapping program that links to both contemporary and historic images. Or we can download a tour developed for teachers with complementary material - Going Deeper - that offers open-ended questions for students.

Important Funding for Education. In 2019 we received a grant from the Provident Bank to support our educational programs. This support provides funding to cover staff salaries, offer tours, produce educational materials and more. The grant is for three years and will ensure our efforts are realized particularly when the Industrial History Center is open.

In addition, the museum has established a committee focused on youth and families. This workgroup includes board, staff, and volunteers from the community who develop programs, events and supporting materials that engage our younger audience.

I hope you agree, all these activities are worthwhile and provide inspiration for the new day coming for us all. We are concerned how we will navigate this moment and need your support more than ever. Please click here to join us or renew your membership today. Let's keep together so we can celebrate Amesbury in the future.

Wash your Hands. Be Healthy.

In solidarity - with great appreciation to you all.
