Community of Makers: Sicilian Style Cart Decoration

from $20.00

Learn about the unique artistry of hand-painted carts in Sicily and paint a traditional design on a small terracotta dish. Appearing in the 19th century as a way for Sicilians to express pride in the stories and nature of their home— as well as their own personal tastes and status— the painted cart has become an icon of Sicily, inspiring designers such as Dolce & Gabbana. Instructor Michelle Hogan is of Sicilian heritage and recently spent a year living in Sicily, where she learned about this tradition. She has a BA in Studio Art.
